The Challenge: Moisture Damage
Moisture is the primary cause of almost all damage observed in building materials. Since many building materials have porous surfaces, moisture and dissolved pollutants penetrate these pores via capillary suction.
The Solution: Hydrophobation
When moisture penetration is hindered, damages to building materials decrease significantly. Utilizing PROTECTOSIL® structure protection products yields outstanding hydrophobic results.
PROTECTOSIL® water repellent products penetrate directly into the surface pores. Water is kept out effectively while water vapor permeability (breathability) is fully maintained.
Deep Hydrophobation Technology
PROTECTOSIL® water repellent molecules are smaller than surface pores. Due to their small molecular size and low viscosity, they penetrate deep into structural materials and chemically react with inner pore walls.
Two Key Advantages of Deep Penetration:
1. UV light and mechanical surface abrasion do not degrade protection.
2. Standard silicones/siloxanes (>20nm) stay on the surface and degrade under environmental stress, whereas PROTECTOSIL® forms an internal barrier.
Testing & Quality Verification

Karsten (Rilem) Tube
Core Drill Ink Test
Non-destructive testing can be performed on structures using Karsten tubes. Core drilling with water-based ink is used to verify exact chemical penetration depth.
10-Year Traffic Exposure Performance
Water penetration levels into concrete were measured before application and ten years after exposure to high traffic. The sustained reduction confirms decadal surface protection.
